Saints Nation: Saints trim roster down to 75, cut Coleman

Cornerback Greg Fassitt and Wide Receiver D'Juan Woods were both released today, and this came as no surprised given the fact that both long shot players were injured. What came as more of a shock was the release of 10 year veteran Rod Coleman (STORY). Coleman, pictured, was a former Pro Bowler that tallied 58.5 sacks over the course of his career. He spent a year away from football in 2008, but seemed poised to resume his decorated career lasting through the entirety of the Saints' training camp. I compiled a likely final 53 man roster yesterday (HERE) that had Coleman on it. This is a big boost to Remi Ayodele's chances of making the club. This release comes after Coleman apparently disappointed in his comeback attempts and looked rusty on the field, unable to regain his old form. I mentioned my concern for the lack of depth at defensive tackle, and Coleman's inability to showcase his peak skills does nothing to help those said concerns. Either Pressley, Ayodele and company are better than I give them credit for - OR we're in BIG trouble if Sedrick Ellis and/or Kendrick Clancy go down to injury.
